Dry Oud

The Story

The result of a quest to create the perfect oud reconstruction. There are many premixed ouds available on the market for perfumers to use, but I tend to abstain from using them. I always want to know what I’m cooking with. One of the problems of working with pre-blended ingredients is that you don’t really know what you’re getting inside the blend. And you cannot adjust any facets you don’t like. During development, I noticed an interesting word-play: “no-oud” could also be read as “nude”. After only a few modifications, our NOOUD was complete. It’s a single note dark, smokey oud, perfect for layering or wearing as a seductive stand-alone.

CHAI

The Story

I first discovered Chai lattes when I was a Ph.D. student in Germany. Years later when I started in perfumery, I was interested in spices and decided to see if I could reconstruct one of my favourite beverages. The result is a perfume version of a chai latte but more sophisticated. I am particularly proud of how the milk froth part is represented in the perfume.

The Story

Boozy, voluptuous and fruity. This intoxicating fragrance evokes intimate and cosy nights by the fireplace. The composition opens with a fresh note of Greek mastic, cushioned by the sweetness of plum, blackcurrant leaf and the booziness of whisky. The hint of roasted coffee gives it an unmistakable modern edge. A dreamy whisper of rose lurks in the background. An all-weather scent with captivating stories to tell.

DAMA KOUPA

The Story

Dama Koupa is translated from Greek as “The Queen of Hearts”. When developing it, I set out on a mission to create a seductive yet sensual fragrance without it being vulgar or screaming in your face for attention. This formula took around 2 years to perfect. At the heart of the fragrance is an iris accord which incorporates a bit of orris butter. This stuff is truly special in perfumery. It is derived from the roots of the bearded iris, the same irises that were famously painted by Van Gogh. Although it has a feminine name, it certainly is not only a feminine fragrance, and works beautifully on men as well.

OH MY DEER!

A beautiful mess, sexy, sensual and a little bit kinky.

The Story

A dirty mind is a joy forever they say! The perfume started as an exercise in recreating the scent of deer musk, the accord was quickly done but releasing it as a standalone fragrance felt boring and redundant, so a whole composition was built around it. Focusing on contrast the perfume opens very bright and radiant then slowly morphs in this sensual enveloping scent that provides excitement and comfort at the same time. Like the song The Honeymooners by Lucky Jim goes “My body be your focus, your labor be my joy “, or simply put: no pain no gain!

PERVERSO

Hedonism in a bottle. A unisex gourmand that revels in its decadence.

The Story

The name comes from the German expression Pervers Gut, which freely translated means perversely good. I use this expression often for food or beverages that are heavily loaded with chocolate. The name fits the perfume as it not only contains delicious notes but also massive quantities of them. It’s built around a chocolate/hazelnut accord which is contrasted by Tobacco and a very sexy dry down. It’s definitely a head turner that will generate attention when you wear it. Guaranteed.

The Story

This perfume is proof that chemistry is the closest thing we have to magic! Sometimes, you come across materials you just couldn't believe they exist. Aldambre is such a material and smells like hot metal. As always when I first get an interesting new material, I try it in everything. For this one, I decided it needed a big stage, it was screaming to be the star in a perfume where it would shine and get fully appreciated. So, I made the most obvious (to me) perfume with it and my most straightforward yet. It's Aldambre embedded in a hot iron accord, musks, and some little tricks I'm not gonna reveal, to finish it off.

LAURAKIMOU!

This dazzling leather floral unisex fragrance is for those who are not afraid to embrace their playful side.

The Story

LAURAKIMOU! - translated as "My Little Laura" from Greek and is dedicated to the perfumer's daughter. Lauraki (λαβράκι) also is the Greek word for sea bass, and it is used as a term to express good fortune like hitting the jackpot. And so my little Laura also happens to be my jackpot. 10 years ago we started working on her scent. As Laura got older, her taste matured with her and so did the perfume. After more than 400 trials and numerous restarts from scratch, we have arrived at this version we present today. A magnolia overdose spiked with ginger and champagne-soaked strawberries, musk, sandalwood and leather, this cocktail is guaranteed to turn some heads. Playful yet fearless, this fragrance captures the wicked spirit of those who do not play by the rules.

物の哀れ / MONO NO AWARE

The Story

Mono No Aware is a key term in Japanese culture and loosely translated it means something like the appreciation of things/objects due to the realisation of their impermanence. I first came across the term Mono No Aware in the autobiography of Sally Mann. The term immediately resonated with me, as for as long as I can remember I've had that feeling of happy/sad when on one hand there is the realisation that all things exist only temporary and at the same time you feel so much at awe that you got to experience them. It's the ever-repeating circle of attachment and letting go. On a philosophical level I never particularly connected to terms like Memento Mori or Vanitas. The denouncing of the material world to me does not equal enlightening or liberation but mostly fear that I associate with numbness, indifference, and apathy. So, I was over the moon when I discovered Mono No Aware, finally a term that felt natural to me. Yes, loss brings sadness, but don't we say better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all, well, et voila! And on a perfume level, isn't the experience of perfume inherent to Mono No Aware, the moment you spray it, it starts to disappear, and that is part of the beauty of perfume 😉 This perfume is ode to this feeling and to the culture that brought us the term.
